BC3 & Emakumeak Zientzian 2024: Promoting Women in Climate and Sustainability Research

BC3 has organized multiple events this year in celebration of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, in collaboration with the Basque initiative Emakumeak Zientzian, which supports women in STEAM fields. The activities aimed to highlight the role of female researchers and encourage future generations to pursue similar career paths.

On February 16 and 21, BC3 held two webinars in English and Basque, respectively. The first session was led by researchers Carmen G. Köhler and Sudeshna Kumar, who discussed the various ways to engage in the research world and the importance of having supportive figures, moderated by researcher Rebecca Blevins. The Basque session, moderated by Marta Pascual, featured the story of Estibaliz Baroja, who emphasized the importance of following one’s passion.

Additionally, researchers Neus Escobar and Clàudia Rodés visited IES Luís Briñas BHI in Bilbao, where they spoke about the journey and challenges faced by women researchers, climate change, its impacts, and BC3’s efforts to address these issues.

Last but not least, researcher Maria Loroño appeared in a one-minute video produced by Emakumeak Zientzian, where she explained her work on the IMAGINE Adaptation project and her commitment to achieving equitable climate adaptation for all.
